Scarce Wilkens Horseless Carriage CLOCKWORK Phaeton Automobile, An EXCEEDINGLY RARE and IMPORTANT HISTORICAL TOY from a period where auto manufacturers and toy makers alike were transitioning from horse drawn to the new automotive technology, There is a horse drawn example of this toy minus the steering wheel and clockwork motor but this example with the clockwork motor is seldom seen, The composition of the toy is Cast Iron and Pressed Steel or Heavy Tin, ALL PARTS AND PAINT ARE ORIGINAL with no touch up, THIS HAS NO CRACKS OR BREAKS AND WOULD BE A VERY NICE PIECE TO PROFESSIONALLY RESTORE AS THESE ARE QUITE UNCOMMON IN ANY CONDITION, The clockwork motor is working well and although one wheel has a slight bend at its' post end, the wheels still do spin freely when clockwork is wound as each of the two wheels independently connects to the mechanism and it's not a true axle, The steering wheel is fixed (by design) but the front wheels are able to pivot so car can go in a circle, There is paint wear and some loss throughout but any oxidation is surface only, There are no MISSING parts except for the SEATED FIGURE (similar to the Hubley horse drawn sleigh lady), See last pic for a previous auction example, Age-1910-1915, Size- 9 inches, Maker- Wilkens
